Management Team

Kevin Starr is a proven operational leader with over 25 years of experience building and operating leading biotech companies. Kevin co-founded Third Rock Ventures in 2007 and focuses on the formation, development and business strategy of our portfolio companies as well as actively identifying and evaluating new investments. He also assumes active leadership roles in Third Rock's portfolio companies, functioning as CEO through the first 12-18 months post launch.  

Prior to Third Rock Ventures, Kevin was COO and CFO at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, where he led key roles in raising billions of dollars in capital through strategic alliances and public financing and driving growth through company expansion and mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he served in various executive roles at Millennium BioTherapeutics, Biogen and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Kevin holds a MS in Corporate Finance from Boston College and a BA in Mathematics and Business from Colby College. He is currently a Board Member of Alnylam Pharmaceuticals.  Kevin is also a founding investor in Prospect Pictures, an independent film and entertainment company.

Michael E. Solomon is an entrepreneurial scientist with more than 13 years of experience in leading scientific and business development teams across a wide range of therapeutic areas. Prior to Ember, Dr. Solomon was the chief business and technology officer for Link Medicine, where he led all aspects of corporate strategy and business development. He also led a scientific team that successfully validated critical biomarker assays for an Alzheimer’s clinical trial. Dr. Solomon was a founding member and interim vice president of molecular discovery of Epizyme, Inc. Prior to Epizyme, Dr. Solomon served as vice president of research and alliance management at Hypnion Inc, which was successfully sold to Eli Lilly, Inc. in 2007. In 2002, Dr. Solomon became a senior associate in the biotechnology research group at Banc of America Securities. Dr. Solomon began his career at Millennium Pharmaceuticals where he rose to become project leader of several metabolic disease projects.

Dr. Solomon received his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of Wisconsin and conducted post-doctorate research at Scripps Research Institute.

Dr. Seehra joined Ember as chief scientific officer in 2012; and has served on Ember's scientific advisory board since the company was founded. Dr. Seehra is formerly the chief scientific officer of Acceleron Pharma, Inc., which he co-founded in 2003. Dr. Seehra has more than 25 years of experience in drug discovery, including having served as vice president of biological chemistry at Wyeth and a drug discovery consultant to AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to that, he led the small molecule lead discovery effort at Genetics Institute, Inc. where he started as a bench scientist and held numerous positions with increasing responsibility. At Genetics Institute, Dr. Seehra successfully built the institute's small molecule drug discovery capabilities, including medicinal chemistry, high throughput screening and structural biology. Dr. Seehra has authored numerous publications and is an inventor on 33 patents.

Dr. Seehra received his B.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Southampton in England. He completed his postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

David White is a biopharmaceutical executive with 16 years of professional experience providing successful management of projects focused on the preclinical advancement of therapeutics for treating metabolic disease. Previously, Dr. White was vice president of platform development at Agios Pharmaceuticals, responsible for providing leadership for the cell metabolism discovery unit. Prior to Agios, he was part of the core group of scientific founders of the Cambridge, Mass.-based drug repositioning unit of Gene Logic/Ore Pharmaceuticals. Dr. White began his professional career at Millennium Pharmaceuticals as an early member of the metabolic disease drug discovery unit. He is an author of more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and listed as an inventor on 53 issued or pending patent filings.

Dr. White received his B.A. and Ph.D. from Boston University and conducted post-doctoral work at Millennium Pharmaceuticals where he made seminal contributions to elucidation mechanisms regulating mammalian body weight homoeostasis.
